Birds Nest Necklace

How many eggs are in your nest? Alot of gals have requested a bird's nest with three eggs to represent each child in their nest.
or...One little little egg as you welcome your first baby home to your nest. Additional pearls can be added as you add little ones to your nest in the future.
This little nest has two little eggs. All of the bird's nests feature genuine pearls. The pearls come in an array of colors. Nest's can be made in silver or copper.
Two little eggs in turquoise pearls tucked safely into their nest. How tweet!

Walk Quietly Among The Trees Necklace

Walk Quietly Among The Trees - good advice and so good for the soul.

I had the opportunity to walk through Muir Woods in California while on vacation. It reminded me of a cathedral. Such a spiritual place - so quiet and so peaceful. It seemed like holy ground for me.
This photo of Muir Woods is from a wonderful blog called If Sew - visit for more photos and other great goodies.

I have always had a fascination with trees, climbing them when I was young, collecting leaves, acorns, nuts and bare limbs for vases. If you too, have a fascination for trees visit this magical place. If there be faeries - they live in Muir Woods. the last primordial redwood forest.

This necklace was made in honor of Muir Woods with a tiny little sparrow dangling from the tag.
I added genuine turquoise and a faceted gemstone in peach attached to a vintage chain.
On the backside to the tag is a vintage pair of children's shoes with one tiny rhinestone in pale blue.

This necklace is available for purchase in my Online Store.

French Inspired Pearl & Garnet Necklace

This necklace would be lovely for a bride on her wedding day with all of the luscious pearls, garnet drops and labradorite that flashes subtle bursts of blue, green and grey.

The facets cut into the labradorite catch the light as you move in the light. It is one of my favorite natural gem stones.

Each pearl is wired to the next for secure wear and tiny drops of garnet dangle beneath the row of pearls.
This crucifix is a reproduction piece from 1700s France and is so intricate and beautiful in each detail. This crucifix was originally used for a rosary, but now becomes the focal point of an extraordinary piece of jewelry.
The clasp in the back is as lovely as the crucifix in the front with a Victorian feel.

This necklace is available for purchase in our Online Store.

Saint Mary Necklace

Another necklace made specifically around the vintage Gerber baby spoon I found at an antique shop. It's aged so wonderfully to a great patina that I knew it would be perfect for a future piece of jewelry. I made a little wire bird's nest for the bowl of the spoon with three sky blue eggs tucked inside.

This is how the little spoon remained for months until I found the perfect compliments to the spoon. When I found this vintage reproduction medallion with Saint Mary I knew she belonged with the Gerber baby spoon. Pearls were a natural choice seperated with tiny glass turquoise and clear seed beads. I love the carved turquoise bead in this necklace and it repeated the turquoise seed beads used with the pearls.

I used the same wire from the nest to link the jasper beads and the turquoise bead together. The darkness of the metal wire prevents the necklace from being too soft.
I added Jasper beads and an amethyst bead for interest and color.

This necklace symbolizes the sanctity of motherhood and is available for purchase in my Online Store.

Prairie Thistle Debut Show

I have been working on a jewelry line called Prairie Thistle for months and the Crowne Center Antique Show was an excellent opportunity to add the jewelry to the antiques to get a read on the response to the result of months of work.

This is a shot of the theme of my booth - it's so ME. Fossils, old bottles, seeds, vintage photographs, lots of wood, antique camera, vintage hats (with poseys), mirrors, wasp nest, hornets nest, rocks, black walnut slabs, ironstone, old books, quilting blocks, burlap and white cotton fabric. A combination of science geek, playing dress up, and art. I wanted to throw in antlers, an arrowhead or two and a pair of work boots - but I just ran out of time.

Walk quietly among the trees features this photo on the back -

Prehistoric ammonite fossil - it's authentic and looks great as a pendant. I wired it up and it now dangles from a strand of vintage black glass beads with copper spacers. To purchase click this link - http://estore.websitepros.com/1438707/-strse-243/necklace-prairie-thistle-jewelry/Detail.bok

This vintage broach has carved ivory roses - I added genuine coral beads and a coral branch dangle. It's graceful and a little Asian in theme. To purchase click this link - http://estore.websitepros.com/1438707/-strse-241/necklace-jewelry-prairie-thistle/Detail.bok

I found this antique Gerber baby spoon in an antique store and had to have it. It finally "became" a jewlery piece with a tiny wire bird's nest with blue pearls inside. The spoon dangles from two strands of pearls with a carved turquoise bead, jasper beads, amethyst bead and a museum reproduction Saint Mary charm from the 1700s. Another ammonite - this time in gray and black with a black faceted bead and vintage glass beads wired together. Painstaking to wire all those beads together - but the result is well worth the effort. How was the show? Was it worth the effort? Did anyone like the jewelry? Well, yes I would say everyone appreciated my creativity, not everyone "got it", but that's art. I had one gentleman ask me what made the pennys lucky? sigh.

But, I met alot of hopefully new customers for the shoppe and I hope that some of them will visit the online store as well. You have to keep your chin up, keep your hands busy and do what you love with passion and zeal.

A set of vintage cannisters I took to the show - they didn't sell and will be in the shoppe this week!

Lucky penny attached to a gear that is attached to a vintage locket. The locket opens and has two removeable photo holders inside. I love this piece! The penny is stamped with the word "LUCKY". (SOLD)

Terrarium in an antique wine bottle - LOVE IT!

Tintype Jewerly

I have always been filled with wonder when holding a tintype photograph for many reasons. The antiquity, the small size, the ingenious design and the rarity all intrigue.

I always wonder about the person in the photo, who was she, what was her life like, how old was she, where did she live? Always expressionless, holding very still for the photographer, the faces are mysterious. All tintype photographs are beautiful in muted tones and seem to be in the shadows where our true selves often live.

Mark Twain once said that we are like the moon. We all have a dark side that no one can see. So what do we do with the tintypes we find in antique stores? Some one's lost relatives - will we end up in an antique store someday? Our family photos cast to the wind? If so, I want my photo to be used in jewelry or art in some way. I want to be worn and enjoyed. Please....not in someones basement in a box, or stuffed in a drawer. Live with me and let my image give someone pleasure. A great conversation piece - that's the legacy I'd like to leave in my wake.

This fascination with tintypes lead me to this assemblage necklace. The woman in the photograph can be labeled in any way as she is a mystery now to all of us.

I chose "BUMPKIN" as it seems the opposite of her demeanor in the photograph. My sense of humor and love of the absurd has a tendency to show up in my work quite often.

The tintype is riveted in place on a hammered brass plate with a stamped copper plate attached to the front. I like the mix of metals in this pendant. Gold, copper, and grays of the tintype seem to blend so well. The pendant dangles from a vintage skeleton key and has a vintage rosary bit dangle with a vintage round jet glass button attached to the end. A tiny sterling silver cross dangles beside the rosary bit.

The vintage key is attached to a string of slate blue pearls. The closure is handcrafted. The necklace hangs 28" in length. A true one of a kind piece. The only one on the planet - I like that idea.

You can purchase this piece of jewelry in my online store - click this link - http://estore.websitepros.com/1438707/Detail.bok?no=278>

Gardening Fools Commission Jewelry

I have some of the funniest gals come into the shoppe. I love them. They always make me laugh - a real belly laugh. One of my regulars, JJ brought in a friend of hers to the shoppe. They were taking a break from their gardens as it was raining and decided to stop by.

When they saw the new jewelry that I am making out of vintage silver spoons that quickly asked it I could do a custom piece for them. JJ wanted a necklace and her friends wanted a bracelet with "GARDENING FOOLS" stamped on it.

So, here you go....

This is JJ's necklace with bright cherry quartz, swarkowski crystals in cobalt blue and lime green turquoise. I hand wired each bead and added the spoon bowl as a focal point with GARDENING FOOL stamped inside. I giggled the entire time I was hammering it out on the anvil. This is the bracelet I made for her friend. She has a very small wrist so I had to modify the spoon so that it would fit her petite wrist. The bracelet has cherry quartz, a crystal in cobalt blue and a lampwork bead in green..
The bracelet closure is a magnetic closure for easy on and off.

I had alot of fun making these two pieces for two great gals who obviously love to garden and have fun.

Be Gloriously Courageous Necklace

The BE gloriously courageous necklace was inspired by the vintage image of the woman dancing. I thought she was so beautifully free spirited. I wanted to use this image in a piece of jewelry in some fashion and considered soldering her between sheets of glass but opted to decoupage the image on brass instead.

The piece began with etching the brass plate with a leafy design. The brass took on a copper hue with the leaf pattern retaining the brass color.

I then stamped the word "BE" on the lower right corner. After punching holes for the jump rings I was ready to move onto the second plate.

I hammered the back of the second plate for texture and interest.Flipped it over and on the reverse side I decoupaged the printed paper and added the dancing goddess on top. I found "gloriously courageous" in an old book from the late 1800s that was aged to the perfect shade of gold. I added a couple of rhinestones for sparkle and attached the two plates with silver jump rings.

I threaded a chain through the jump rings and the necklace was finished.

The plates are 1" x 1.5" and suspended from a silver chain that is 24" in length.

This necklace is available at the shoppe and will soon be available in our online store http://estore.websitepros.com/1438707/-strse-278/tintype-assemblage-necklace-jewelry/Detail.bok>

Believe With The Heart Necklace

Believe With The Heart Necklace is one of my favorite creations. It's so special with the vintage gold plated locket, the vintage chain, the cherry quartz bead on the chain make it so special. The addition of the little chick just clinches the WOW factor of the piece.

I photographed this necklace on a vintage autograph book of a young teacher from Iowa that had her students write in at the end of the school year. I found this autograph book in an antique shop and had to have it. .

I decoupaged Italian style paper with the single word "believe".

The tintype of a young girl seemed fitting to add to this empty locket. Maybe a young girl like her added her sentiments to her teacher's autograph book at the end of the school year.
I added another little lady to the back of the inside of the locket with the sentiment "with the heart" to finish the thought - Believe With The Heart.

This locket is 1" x 1.5 and hangs from a vintage chain that is 24" long.

This locket is available at the shoppe and soon in the online shoppe www.gardenologyllc.com.>
